Georgia O'Keeffe was born on November 15, 1887 in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. She was one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century. O'Keeffe created portraits of huge flowers, landscapes, animal bones, and skyscrapers. She went from really dark to really light on her paintings. O'Keeffe used oil paint, watercolor, pencil, and even clay! She was awarded the Medal of Freedom by President Gerald Ford in 1977. Later she was awarded the Medal of Arts by President Ronald Reagan 1995. The last two decades of her life included ill health and blindness that hindered her ability to work.
